Put fun in your work

Here is your Daily Dose of Amazing Service:

Put fun in your work (and include your customers)

And here are some additional thoughts on this topic…

One night my wife and I met some friends at the Mall of America where we enjoyed, among others things, some ice cream at Cold Stone Creamery.  We don’t eat much ice cream but we like this Cold Stone location because it’s always fun. In fact, as you line up, waiting your turn, you see a sign that says: “The fun starts here.”

And it was fun. More than you’d expect from an ice cream shop.

The employees engaged and joked with the customers. There was a lot of energy and activity. One employee offered to throw the ice cream into the air and catch it with the cone or dish. His offer was if he missed, it was free.  He missed. He missed big. But that made it all the more fun. And the howls of  laughter made the line of customers grow.

Look at your job or business at the point of experience. See it from your customer’s view. How can you put fun into the experience your customers have while still getting the job done, so customers get what they came for?
