Know your customer

Here is your Daily Dose of Amazing Service:

Know your customer.

And here are some additional thoughts on this topic…

Sitting in my favorite coffee shop recently I noticed a man in a white shirt and tie (carrying a briefcase) walk up to the counter. He looked like a salesman. Rather than order something, he asked to speak with “JoJo”.

I chuckled to myself as he said this.

The name of the coffee shop is “JoJo’s Rise and Wine”. The owners each have “Jo” in their names but neither is named “Jo”.  (There is no person named “JoJo”.)

It turned out, this guy was a salesman. More accurately, he was a salesman who made no effort to get to know his potential customer.  So he wound up looking a little foolish. Not an ideal way to begin a new customer  relationship. I doubt he did any business with them.

This is all too common. People don’t take the time to  learn about their customers. So they either look silly. Or they offer poor  service as a result. Either way they send a message that says “you’re not worth my time to get to know better.”

This presents a huge opportunity for the rest of us.

How can you serve your customers better by knowing them better?
