We’ve all dealt with people and companies that try to sell us what they want us to buy. They try to fit our need to their solution. They send us away with no help if what we want is something they cannot quickly and easily do. Their entire focus is on what they want to accomplish. They are not delivering customer service. They are only serving themselves and their company.

Customers come to you to accomplish something good or avoid something bad. They could have chosen another company. They chose you because they believe you can help them better than anyone else. Honor their choice by doing your best for them. Put their needs first. This is how you serve your customers.

Ask yourself: Are you willing to send a customer to your competitor if that’s the best way to help them? Doing so would put their needs ahead of yours. (If you were a customer, what would you think of someone who did this?)
