One of my favorite customer service quotes is "Customers don’t expect you to be perfect. They do expect you to fix things when they go wrong." -DONALD PORTER

Russ - you're right. Using a person's name does bring you closer to them. It's human nature to want to be recognized and acknowledged and that's what you do when you sue someone's name. Thanks for your comment!

The best way to connect with ANYONE is to use their name when you are speaking to them, it just seems like it brings you in closer.

Indeed, there is nothing more frustrating (or insulting) than being referred to as 'Hon' or, worse yet, 'Guys", when it is my mother and I (also female). I do tend to patronize the businesses that know who I am. It is a pleasure to be in friendly, welcoming atmosphere. I work hard for my money and would much rather spend it where my needs and wishes are of import, and my patronage valued.
