Whew! Black Friday 2011 is now behind us. We can all relax and catch our breaths. And then get on with the rest of our holiday season.
Personally, I think the whole idea Black Friday is way over done. But that’s just my personal opinion. What’s important (much more important than my personal opinion) is that it’s a very real phenomenon. And it’s (apparently) here to stay.
So when I think of Black Friday I can’t help wondering how the day went for most people. Was it a good customer experience? A bad one? Somewhere in the middle? Was it worth it?
Since I don’t shop on Black Friday, I have no direct experience to bring to bear on this discussion. But, there are many, many people who (unlike me) spend plenty of time waiting in line, fighting crowds and otherwise enjoying this most commercial of all holidays.
Therefore, my question for you is: How was your Black Friday customer service?
And to make it easy for you to share, I have created this handy survey form. So take a minute (that’s all it takes, honest) and share your Black Friday customer experience with me. I’ll tally the results and report them in a couple weeks. Don’t worry, it will all be anonymous. No names will be used and no animals will be harmed.

How was your customer service on Black Friday this year? share your thoughts in this quick survey: http://t.co/3Ve8vgW6 #custserv
The concept of Black Friday is, of course, an American concept, which we don’t really have in the UK – although we have become aware of it in recent years.
But I did go Christmas shopping last week end and my experiences were interesting enough that I actually wrote an article of my own on the whole Christmas shopping experience! Briefly, we went into (among others) several shoe shops. In one we were offered excellent service – attentive staff, who although busy, could not do enough to help.
In a rival shoe shop the number of customers was significantly fewer. However it was well staffed – particularly memorably by two girls who floated around the store doing a remarkable job of maintaining a conversation while ignoring all the customers! Literally – they did not miss a beat of their gossip for the entire time we were in a store, but never thought to ask if we needed any help.
Not only did this irritate me enough to write a post about it, but it had a more direct impact on the bottom line. One shoe shop received zero from us, the other received two orders for pairs of boots totalling well over £100.
So yes, Black Friday/week end shopping was a slightly grisly experience, but at least I felt that we had a certain degree of revenge for the poor (and also reward for the great) service!
